SMK DATUK HAJI ABDUL SAMAD
PORT DICKSON
NEGERI SEMBILAN

Assalamualaikum and hiii! We learnt a lot of things while in Concorde. When we were back from Concorde Hotel, we immediately started to discuss about Step 1 - Identify and Select Problem. We spread the awareness among the students in our school by giving a speech about, 'What Is Carbon Footprint' and also about the Toyota Eco Youth! We started to gain the support among the students and teachers in our school.

We began to search for the 3 problems. At first, we were having a tough times to find 3 problems in Port Dickson. Thus, we kept searching and searching. We cycled around Port Dickson daily. After all the worth efforts, we finally succeeded to find at least 3 problems in Port Dickson. We also interviewed the community around Port Dickson regarding the problems that we found.

Base on what we have learnt, we need to compile the problems all together and pick one problem which is the most critical! Let's see our main 3 problems~

  • Garbage disposal is not well managed by the community in Kampung Arab.
  • Littering occurs along the beach in Sea View.
  • Wasted cooking oil disposal behind the restaurants in the drain along the path of Jalan Raja Aman Shah.

These are the problems we found around Port Dickson. We also captured a few pictures in the area. The pictures as follows :

PROBLEM 1 : GARBAGE DISPOSAL IS NOT WELL MANAGED BY THE COMMUNITY IN KAMPUNG ARAB.

Look! The community around Kampung Arab are not conscious about the environment! They don't even throw the trash inside the waste container. Haihhh we sighed, while seeing this.

PROBLEM 2 : LITTERING OCCURS ALONG THE BEACH IN SEA VIEW.

Sea View is an usual place for the communityto go fishing, picnic, outing and much more. But see, littering also is a habit for the community. We need to change!

PROBLEM 3 : WASTED COOKING OIL DISPOSAL BEHIND THE RESTAURANTS IN THE DRAIN ALONG THE PATH OF JALAN RAJA AMAN SHAH.

Ewwwww!! Can you imagine swimming is this drain? Haha! Of course you will not. The oil came from the restaurants' sink and it flows throughout the drain behind the restaurant! It can cause pollutions :( This is so bad!

DUN~ DUN~

After we investigated all the problems, we were getting ready to do the presentation on 13th April 2017. Without saying much, these are the pictures of our preparation with supporting teams before Madam Suhaila and Mr Zin arrived on 13th April 2017.

12/04/2017 - Practice For The Presentation In Front Of The Supporters And Teachers!

Listen up everyone!~ Presentation explaination by the leader and disscusion with all the supporters and teacher were going very well. Fuh! We were very nervous!

13/04/2017 - The Arrival of Madam Suhaila and Mr Zin!

It's time for the presentation of the Step 1 - Identify and Select Problem to Madam Suhaila and Mr Zin. Also not to forget, Madam Zarina from PPD and Mr Halim from JPN also came to support us and see our presentation. Thank you~! Before the presentation started, we had our breakfast then, our principal, Madam Reha gave her speech and received a RM 2000 grant from UMW Toyota Motor as a startup money for the project.

When everything has done, we started our presentation and it ran smoothly about 25 minutes. Then, Madam Su and Mr Zin asked us a few questions regarding the problems that we already listed.

We were explaining the meaning of our logo. Sadly, one of our member, Abd Hisham was absent on that day because he was not feeling well~ :'(

After that, they decided to go for the site visits when we done all the presentation and Q&A session. They only went to 2 locations, Kampung Arab and Jalan Raja Aman Shah because they said the problem in Sea View was not really critical and uncontrollable.

Lalala, we were excited for the site visits!!~ Madam Suhaila and Mr Zin went for site visits and analyzed the problematic locations. They explained a lot to us how the problems can affect the community. About half and hour we went for site visits, we came back to school to ensure which problem we had to choose for the project. They chose the 3rd problem which is Wasted cooking oil disposal behind the restaurants in the drain along the path of Jalan Raja Aman Shah. They said the location and problem were  already specific and suitable to start a project because it's close to community around Port Dickson. We agreed with their decision because we also want to reduce the wasted cooking oil being thrown into the drain and occurs pollution in a various aspects.

We were focusing on Madam Suhaila's explaination about the problem and location.

Madam Suhaila also explained to us about how long it will take to finish our project and she explained each steps to us depends on our problem. We only have 3 months left until everything need to be done before 7 July. We are hoping that we can finish this project as soon as possible! Wish us luck guys!!
