Pitas is district in Sabah under the Kudat Division. The name 'Pitas' is derived from the word of 'Nopitas' from 'Sungai' dialect that means "disconnected". This refers to an event a long time ago when the Bengkoka river was flooded and the villagers were not able to travel out of village. Pitas was established as a full ditrict in 1975 and among the ethnics in Pitas are the Dusun Kimaragang, Tombonuo, Orang Sungai, Bajau, and Rungus.
SMK Pinggan-Pinggan, Pitas (SMEKEPP) is situated about 150 km from Kota Kinabalu. A journey will take two hours and 30 minutes from the capital and about 45 minutes from Kota Marudu. SMEKEPP is located in vicinity of a village of the same name 'Kg. Pinggan-Pinggan'. The school is about 500 metres from seaside, a symbol of hope in a village that thrives in fishery and algriculture.

SMEKEPP is the champion of state level Harapan SERASI competition - a program organizedby the Sabah Forestry Department. SERASI is a competition among the schools in Sabah aimed at nurturing awareness on the importance of preserving the environment.
